You are going to a new country to do a job that you will probably have never done before, so training is essential. Training is a 5-day residential course, and is held on Coll in July prior to your departure. It has a number of aspects:

Briefing: A member of staff (usually your Desk Officer) who knows your country and project will provide this briefing. You need to be told where you are going and how to get there, what to take with you, medical advice, how to stay healthy and look after yourself.

Training: You are going overseas to do a job alongside local people. If you are going to a teaching project then you will receive training from a qualified member of staff. For other projects we will give you appropriate training to do your job well.

Awareness: Our volunteers have a unique opportunity to experience life in another country, not as a tourist but as a co-worker and friend.

Part of your training is concerned with how to reap the maximum benefit from your year, how to go about learning about the community in which you are living.

Social: You have an excellent opportunity to get to know your partner, your country group and the Project Trust staff throughout the week, culminating in the great Project Trust tradition of the final night ceilidh!
